Why Buy New When Used Heavy Equipment is the Better Choice?
Author: Groshan FabiolaPurchasing heavy equipment is a necessary part of the construction business, but the steep asking prices on just one crane, dump truck, excavator, skid steer, loader, tractor, or any number of heavy equipment pieces that your business will use in its daily operation could easily finance an entire home construction project. Any time one of your employees points out that you need new machinery, you cringe, right? Then it’s time to take out the accounting books and see how you can afford new construction equipment.
Need a crane? Be prepared to spend around $250,000 or more for a brand new crane model. How about an excavator? It’s relatively cheaper at around $25,000-50,000. A brand new skid steer costs around $25,000. Buy a new dump truck and you could easily be spending hundreds of thousands—if not millions—for a really big heavy dump truck.
That’s why buying used machinery can save your company so much. A used crane can cost as little as $75,000. A used excavator can cost $17,000. What about a used skid steer? An asking price of $10,000 or even $6000 for a used skid steer is not unheard of. Used trucks start at as little as $3500. Depending on the size of the used dump truck you have in mind, your company could pay only $2500. Since a dump truck tire alone can cost $40,000 if the heavy dump truck is big enough, it might be more economical to replace the entire dump truck than replace the tires!
How do you find prices like these and better on used heavy equipment? By searching for a reputable third-party used heavy construction equipment classifieds website to act as mediator between buyers and sellers.
If you’re looking to buy used heavy equipment or any other kind of used machinery, try a reputable online classified website You’ll find classifieds for used heavy trucks, used excavators, used skid steers, heavy loaders, heavy tractors, cranes, and many used heavy construction equipment pieces. Search for used heavy equipment by manufacturer and machine type.
Many of the used construction equipment prices are negotiable, so you could easily get a deal on a used excavator, used skid steer, used dump truck, or any other piece of used heavy construction equipment for far less than the prices listed. Don’t see the used heavy equipment you’re looking for? Place a Want Ad with a description of the used construction equipment you want and your price range!
Purchasing heavy equipment, even used heavy equipment, can consume a large amount of funds. When heavy dump trucks, cranes, or any other heavy equipment is on the fritz, some construction companies might just need to borrow some heavy equipment for a short time while their heavy equipment is being fixed.
New heavy construction equipment can cost so much of your construction company’s funds that even the best jobs can turn little profit. While quality machinery is of course essential to any construction project’s success, quality used machinery is easy to find with the right classifieds website. Before you buy new, buy used heavy equipment and save the accounting books at your construction business from going into red!

Explore New and Used Dealers With Farm Equipment for Sale
By Alfred Ardis
When looking for farm equipment for sale, you may not know where to start. Different dealerships can help you depending on how you will use the products. You don't always have to purchase brand new products to get a great value. Explore what's available at new and used dealerships, and talk with the staff about your particular needs.
For Homeowners
If you're a homeowner, you might not think you need to look for farm equipment for sale. However, consider some of the machinery that may fall into this class of product:
- Riding mowers - Most dealers will have a wide range of riding lawn mowers. Depending on the size of your yard, you may want to talk to them about the size of cut, its power and speed, and any other features you may want.
- Zero-Turn Mowers - This type of mower is used more often by commercial customers, but homeowners also enjoy the nice cut and ease of use that they provide.
- Snow equipment - For areas that have harsh winters, you may need something to help you remove and blow snow away from walkways, patios, and decks.
- Tractors - Homeowners that have several acres to maintain might have the need for a small tractor to help with plowing, digging, hauling and more. You may find this useful if you maintain a garden, pond, or other landscaping areas that require more maintenance.
For Commercial Businesses
Whether you have a small lawn care company or a large landscaping business, you will probably be looking at farm equipment for sale at some point. Depending on your level of service for your customers, you may be interested in:
- Utility vehicles - These are motorized work carts that you can use to transport shrub and tree cuttings, mulch, plants, and other yard items from place to place.
- Mowers - There are lots of different mower options for commercial landscaping businesses. You may be interested in a simple zero-turn, or want the added features of a front mower, wide-area mower, or walk-behind and stand-on mowers.
- Tractors - While largely thought of for farming only, some businesses may be interested in tractors for use in landscaping maintenance. You may choose to have a cab, add a front end loader, or plow to the back.
- Worksite Products - Businesses that provide land clearing or removal services may need heavier equipment. Products such as compact track loaders, excavators, and skid-steer loaders can usually be leased or purchased.
For Working Farms
While there are fewer working farms these days, the ones that continue to operate effectively will periodically need to look at farm equipment for sale that is specific to their particular product. The owner who grows hay will have different needs than the one who grows soybeans or potatoes. One of the most important pieces of equipment will be a tractor that is the size and power appropriate for the business use. There will also be a need for equipment that allows you to:
- Till the ground
- Plant seeds
- Spray fertilizer
- Water the crop
- Trim the crop or surrounding areas
- Shred appropriate crops
- Haul / transport crops or other by-products
No matter your reason for looking at farm equipment for sale, take time to talk with different dealers about your needs. You will likely be making a significant purchase, so you want the best value for the money!

Chemistry Lab Equipment - New and Used Models
By Jeremy Linder
Leading laboratory product suppliers have a large inventory of both new and used models of chemistry lab equipment. Manufactured by leading companies, the equipment is standardized, highly functional and durable. Laboratories can choose the products they need depending on their requirements and budget limits. In other words, smaller labs can easily go in for used models of chemistry lab equipment which costs less, but works as well as new.
New Chemistry Lab Equipment - Guaranteed Performance
Equipment ranging from microscopes, balances, pipettes and scales to blood gas analyzers, electrolyte analyzers, chemistry analyzers and centrifuges come into routine use in chemistry laboratories. The main advantage of using new models is that they offer the latest design and technology. Though expensive, functioning and accuracy are guaranteed with new models of lab equipment. The devices come with extended warranty and ensure lasting performance. Spare parts, accessories and consumables are easily available for new models.
Used Models to Save on Expenditure
Small and medium-sized research facilities tend to be budget-sensitive. In this case, the best option would be for them to go in for used chemistry laboratory equipment. Leading distributors supply such equipment at very affordable rates. Moreover, they take care to ensure that the products they supply function as efficiently as new equipment does. Before offering the used products for sale, the dealers refurbish the products to match original manufacturer specifications. Factory-trained technicians re-certify the products after stringent quality control checks. Reputable dealers provide full warranty for the products they supply. The greatest benefit is that the price is much lower than that of new equipment.
Post Sale Service
Whether they go in for new or used models of chemistry laboratory equipment, it is important for chemistry labs to ensure that purchase is from an established dealer that ensures reliable post sales service.
Block Scientific is the affordable source of both new and used Chemistry Lab Equipment like Centrifuges, Hematology Analyzers, Chemistry Analyzers, Blood Gas Analyzers and more.

'Do I Need a License to Drive Forklifts' and Other Questions About New and Used Forklifts
By Chris A. Harmen
When you first purchase new or used forklifts, questions that are often forgotten include those concerning licensing, insurance, and required training. While the solutions aren't necessarily difficult, several factors come into play such as where you live and how you will use the equipment. While this is a general guideline, always check with the proper authorities if you are unsure of the requirements.
Licensing For New And Used Forklifts
A common question is whether each person who drives the unit will need a driver's license from the state. The answer is no, operators will not need a license. The one exception to the rule is if the equipment is operated on a public street. In this instance, he or she will only need the regular license needed for any other vehicle.
The papers needed for the machine works in much the same way. So long as it remains on private property moving loads, it doesn't require any type of licensing with the state. If you plan to use it on public roads, it may require at least limited licensing.
Insurance On Lift Equipment
While motor vehicles require insurance to ensure any damage or injuries will be covered in the event of an accident, new and used forklifts do not need traditional vehicle insurance. Instead, these machines are covered under the general liability coverage you will already have on your business. When you purchase the equipment, you may have to talk to your insurer to ensure your current coverage is large enough to cover everything. Thankfully, any increase in premiums will be far less than those associated with traditional auto coverage.
Certification, Training, And Required Courses
Operators of new or used forklifts do not require any type of course, certification, or training by law. However, companies themselves can require that a driver take operation and safety courses where he or she would achieve certification. While many require this only when starting, some send their drivers on a yearly or bi-yearly basis as a refresher course. Experts recommend that everyone receive training as often as they need to.
Training courses frequently contain three separate parts: safety, operation procedures, and check-throughs/general maintenance. The first goes through the safety features that may be in place as well as procedural safety for driving the unit. The second goes through the various components of the equipment and the basics of how they work. The last will take future drivers through the steps of looking over the equipment and load before safely moving equipment. It may also contain basic maintenance instructions such as checking fluid levels, lines, etc.
Regardless of whether you have used Nissan forklifts or new John Deere units, licensing, training, and insurance will have to be addressed before putting them in operation. If your company has yet to put requirements in place, consider having a beginner's course in place to ensure everyone stays safe, the equipment remains in top shape, and the work is completed efficiently. The steps taken before using this equipment can save numerous problems later on.

Business Financing Solutions - Equipment Leasing and Used Equipment Financing
By Chris A. Harmen
To run a company efficiently, it is crucial to have complete access to the supplies and equipment needed to successfully compete within an industry. A trucking company will fail without trucks, a retail sales business needs computers for inventory and registers to assist consumers in making a purchase, and a dentist's office cannot effectively provide dental procedures to patients without the right specialized dental equipment.
While businesses need the proper equipment to function and compete within an industry, many businesses do not have the funding to fork over thousands of dollars to purchase these crucial pieces. Many businesses do not realize there is a solution for acquiring new equipment or for replacing outdated equipment through leasing. By taking advantage of equipment leasing, companies can get the supplies they need, even if they do not have the funds to purchase them outright.
The Advantages Of Leasing Equipment
There are many advantages to equipment leasing. The following three benefits in particular show how leasing can make more sense than buying. First, many leasing companies offer fast approvals, allowing a business to get the equipment they need quick. Second, leasing provides businesses with beneficial stepped payment plans, custom and flexible terms, and seasonal schedules.
Lastly, there is much less paperwork with equipment leasing. Typically, a business only needs to fill out a short application to get the process started. Most companies that lease equipment directly review and approve applications, so there is no need to sit and wait by the phone for a credit approval company to give the thumbs up. Equipment leasing companies do not have to follow the same regulations required of banks. That means businesses will most often receive competitive rates that will not bust their budget.
Any company requiring the purchase of expensive equipment should consider the benefits and cost effectiveness of equipment leasing.
The Advantages Of Financing Used Equipment
Another option for businesses interested in equipment leasing is used equipment financing. Businesses who cannot function without necessary specialty equipment, but who have a problem financing due to limited cash flow, should consider financing solutions. Used equipment financing offers businesses a way to purchase the high quality equipment needed on a budget.
Used equipment financing is provided for businesses in a large list of industries, including seasonal, recreational, transportation, restaurant, landscaping, office, computer, industrial, construction, and more. Through used equipment financing, businesses short on cash can still purchase the equipment needed but avoid the high cost of new equipment. New companies often have a hard time obtaining financing simply because they are a new company. By purchasing used equipment through a financing company, a business can still startup with quality equipment while avoiding the debt often brought on by purchasing new equipment.
Equipment leasing and used equipment financing are both great options for any business with minimal funds looking to do the job right. By taking advantages of these business solutions, any properly run business can be a success.

New and Used Fitness Equipment - Which is Better and Why
By Bill R Jones
Here in this article we aim to carry out a comparative study between the new fitness equipment and used fitness equipment in terms of quality and usage. We take a look and decide on the fact whether to buy a used fitness equipment is at all a sound decision or not.
So coming to the point, if you go ahead and start with a research work on your own that, if the two categories of exercise equipment are compared there is not much difference that you will be able to trace in terms of the quality but then the monetary value may vary to a large extent which may become one of the deciding factors for you.
If you are seriously considering some workout sessions at home, then even the experts will suggest you that you should buy used fitness equipment which is a far better option as these are a lot cheaper than the brand new workout machines available in the market. The new machines are generally more expensive and hence out of the budget of a lot of people.
New fitness equipment costs huge whereas the used exercise equipment are cheaper on a perpetual level. And another added advantage that the used exercise equipment may have on the new ones is that you may be lucky enough to get a lot of extra accessories just like that with no added numbers to the price.
Moreover, even if you buy a brand new gym equipment, often there is no guarantee that the fitness equipment that you buy is the best and won't provide you with some thing that is not much more than just a little sprinkling of exercises.
Another very important point that needs to be mentioned is that buying new fitness equipment is a lot like buying a new car. We say so because just like a new car, the moment you are done with buying new exercise equipment, the value and worth of the machine starts reducing all because of depreciation.
So why not buy used exercise equipment when in reality the quality of the fitness machine remains all the same.
In fact you can re-establish your belief in the quality of used exercise equipment that you go on to buy by getting it strictly judged and checked by a professional fitness trainer in the first place.
After all it doesn't really justify buying a huge and hefty treadmill or massive weights only because you have a lot of extra cash and can afford to buy one. Why not realize the worth of your money and act accordingly knowing that to buy used fitness equipment means buying a machine that is no worse than what it was in original.
So all those of you out there who do not have a lot of money to waste and shop for first hand exercise equipment does obviously have the optimal choice of going out in the market and look for some quality used fitness equipment that is going to be equally good as well without a single drawback of any kind.

Benefits of New and Used CNC Equipment
By Dave Metro
Many manufacturing companies have battled the idea of new equipment or used trying to make the best decision for the their company. Many of my personal customers have been down this road and I have learned a lot from them and their collective experiences and here Id like to share what I have learned.
The most upfront factor to the decision of new vs used is cost. Much like a used car vs a new car cost is the first thing we think of. However many decision makers do not take more then the up front cost into mind. For example perhaps a new mill is $80,000 while a lightly used mill of similar design and specifications is only $60,000.
It sounds like an easy choice but lets consider the differences. Firstly the new mill will generally come with a 1 year warranty and 2 years on the control. Most used machines come with no warranty and on a machine of this price a warranty could be worth an estimated $4000.
Another hidden cost of used machines is installation and training. With most new machines all installation procedures (set up, leveling, testing, and adjustments for precision and performance) are included and provided by factory trained technicians and engineers. Also most new machines include formal training on the product to ensure proper use, maintenance, and any operations the machine is capable of carrying out. These expenses can run upwards of $3000 depending on the level of training and size of the machine.
It is also wise for a customer to have the used machine inspected upon arrival. This is something the factory technicians would do in the installation of the new machine. However on a new machine nothing is expected to be wrong. I have seen used machines in a wide range of conditions. Some of my customers have bought used machines that were installed practically new. On the other hand I have seen machines that needed tens of thousands of dollars in repairs. One of the worst possibilities on a new or used machine is shipping damage. Machines are loaded with many electronics and fragile parts. A long bumpy truck ride through varied climates (high and low humidity, hot and cold temperatures, thunder and snow storms, and least suspected static electricity build ups) can have untold effect on a machining center. The only peace of mind is that a new machine warranty will cover all aspects of these damages. And no sorry freight insurance generally will not cover these possible damages on any machine.
Staying on the subject of repairs some research on service should be done before selecting a brand new or used. Many brands that are no longer being manufactured have no official service available. However you may find that a former technician or group of technicians have formed a independent repair company and can offer excellent service on your used equipment. Be aware that there are many new brands that may not offer local service as well. Some companies only offer service from their headquarters which may or may not be an affordable distance to pay for travel on. Many reputable dealerships offer their own service by sending their technicians for factory training to provide customers with the best help possible. You don't want to select a brand that needs constant service but its always comforting to know someone will be there if you do need it.
Finally age is a factor that should be considered in your decision. Do not underestimate the advances in technology over the years even if they are not immediately noticeable. For example Fanuc has made many advances in their standard encoders make a major difference in contouring and 3D work. New machines also have many energy conservative ideas built into them earlier machines did not consider. Kitamura Machining Centers are an excellent example of being energy conscientious. They have many features to reduce way lube usage, conserve energy (a low horse power spindle motor can deliver more torque using a 4 step geared spindle providing the customer with greater cutting power and lower energy costs), and low air pressure requirements are meant to curb compressor usage. These things all add up to lower upkeep costs, faster machining/ finishing times which all spell more money in your pockets. Could this spell a cheaper new machine in the long run then used for you? Don't take for granted a new machine will have a much longer lifespan then used as well. That could be many years of repairs you wont be paying for.
Now used machines do have many benefits if purchased correctly. For example there are many wonderful companies out there who sell used equipment after a thorough inspection and repairs if necessary. Some even offer a warranty, possibly at a small fee that would be advisable to purchase. Used machines also provide a lower financial risk for smaller start up companies with some mechanical know how. Though I recommend leaving the repairs to professional factory trained technicians some minor adjustments and repairs can be done in house at a fraction of the cost. That benefit can make a big difference to the smaller shops in the beginning.
Another benefit is in the commitment. Due to the lower price you may be able to purchase it out right or at a much lower term making the commitment easier. If you own the machine and decide its not right for you anymore or wish to upgrade, you can simply trade it in, put it up for sale or sell it to local shop possibly even for a profit if you got a good deal initial (it happens more then you think!).
Some other things to consider before making a decision is talk with a professional accountant about tax benefits, a loan officer on rates, and local sales representatives on whats popular, has special pricing, or possible deals coming up soon. Don't forget to check the internet for reviews on products. You cannot count every review as law but its a good bet if many people favor a make and model from different many different industries you may have found your choice.
Though this article was not designed to give you an answer one way or another I hope you have found helpful in aiding your decision. If it added some complications to your research relax and realize its better you make a smart decision then an easy one. There are many more aspects you must ask yourself as a decision maker and its quite possible this maybe your companies most important decision at the moment. So take the time, research, ask advice, and consider. I promise the next purchase will be easier.
